Magazine
18 MarOverall I am very pleased with how my magazine turned out, I feel that it looks professional but yet has elements of fun.
During the making of the magazine cover I encountered a number of changes, this is because I wanted to trial different ideas. To the right is a picture of my first title t
hat I made, it was bold and black so I felt it would grab the attention of potential customers, however upon reflection I realised that I could make it loo
k more interesting, so I added an effect which made the text look grainy, which I feel makes it look like a fuzzy cinema screen so therefore is relevant to movies and I think it makes the title look more interesting. Another thing I did with the title was to add a lens flare behind the word lights in order to make it stand out and look like a camera flash as if to be on the red carpet. Other features of the magazine so far is a banner along the bottom of the cover, I have seen this used in existing magazines so therefore i thought it would help to make my magazine look more authentic.
In the next stage of my magazine I added the main feature image, this is conventional of existing magazines as it is usually the point that draws the audience to the magazine. I used a photo of the main character from my trailer as ‘He’s The Man’ is the feature of my magazine. I changed the saturation of the image in order for it to be in keeping with the colour scheme already in place on the cover. The character is holding a serious pose, this was used as the title of the film suggests that he is superior, however those who have seen the trailer would realise that this is just using irony, as in fact the character is quit the opposite. He is a rather unfortunate character as he is forever embarrassing himself.
After applying my image to the cover, I added an outer glow this is because it not only lifts the image, it has connotations of being holy and greater, which again supports the idea of irony used to create a comedic effect. Other things i added to my cover at this stage were alot more sub headings, these tell the reader what is inside the magazine in a bid to encourage them to buy it. By using words such as ‘exclusive’ and ‘must see’ tries to make the magazine seem like a must have item.
poster final
17 MarI first started my poster with a white background, this is because this is how the titles appeared in my trailer so I felt it would be in keeping, however upon reflection I felt it made the poster look v
ery amature. Therefore I trialed a poster with a light blue background, I added a stroke to the title in order to make it have more of an impact. The pictures used had an outer glow surrounding them, I did this because I fel it makes them look as if they are in a bubble, which can look quite comical, which hopefully reflects the trailer. I looked at existing posters in order to gain an idea as to what the conventions of movie posters were. I found that alot of them contained brief review comments from other media, therefore I included quotes about my ‘film’ that praised it in order to make people want to go and see it.
The images featured on the poster show the main character of the trailer holding his hands out as if to say ‘help me’ this is because the character is unlucky when it comes to love, so by being surrounded by the girls in the background he is unsure what to do anymore. Whereas the girls are just looking on posing as if they don’t even care and find his antics shameful. Along the bottom of the poster I added text in order to make it look realistic, this is small print like the credits at the end of a film which state those involved in the making of the movie. I also used symbols to make it look authentic such as the suggested age.
So after finishing the layout of the poster, I decided that the colour of the poster background could be improved, this is because I felt that it clashed with a few of the features such as the title. Therefore I tried an orange shade and instantly I felt that it had improved the look of the poster, it is refreshing and is quite bright which is associated with comical things, I then made this my final poster .
TRAILER
17 Mar
So the trailer has finally made an appearance on my blog…
LOCATIONS & PROPS
The idea of the trailer is about a young business man who is successful in every other field except when it comes to love, by having the title ‘He’s The Man’ it is basically using irony to moc the character as we are shown that he is not all what he lets on to be . In the trailer we are told that ‘he has the car’…
Therefore I used a BMW 3 series in order to portray the fact that he has done well in his job, I also feel that the car looks classy which helps to emphasise the persona of the character that I am trying to portray in my trailer. The audience is shown the car pulling onto the drive and then the character exiting the car and locking it, he does this in a way which comes across as quite cocky, as if to create a ‘look at me’ effect.
Then the audience is then shown a clip of the character standing in the window of his house, for this
I chose to use a modern house in the suberbs. This is done as I think it helps to show that the character is quite young and stylish and I feel that having a country farmhouse wouldn’t be in keeping with the character I Intended to create. I then wanted to film something in a different location to add variety to the trailer
so I filmed some clips in an office, this helps to emphasise the characters business man lifestyle. I had to think of ways in which I could create comical clips within such environment, which at times proved to be quite difficult as there was limited props.
MUSIC
I used Justin Timberlake Sexyback (instrumental version)
